I need to scan multi-page documents to.pdf files in a user preferred directory. I have an HP Color Laserjet 2840 that used HP director under Windows XP to scan documents to.pdf files. I had to move the printer/scanner to a Windows 7 64-bit machine. 'Scanning multiple pages Manual multi-page scanning is possible with the software included with the all-in-one. To prompt for additional pages, on the Preferences tab of the Scan Picture settings or the Scan Document settings, select Prompt for additional pages after each scan from glass.
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.
Sorry for the inconvenience caused.
Please refer the steps below to scan multiple pages into one PDF file and see if it helps;
Search Windows Fax and Scan.
Then click Windows Fax and Scan.
Click Scan in the bottom of the left pane.
On the toolbar, click New Scan.
In the New Scan dialog box, click the Profile list, and then click Photo. The default settings for scanning a photo, which you can use or change, are automatically displayed.
To see how the photo will appear when scanned, click Preview. If needed, change your scan settings, and then preview the image again.
Click Scan.
For the issue with 'HP Solutions Center' i would suggest you to install it in Compatibility mode and see if it helps:
Now, to install in Compatibility Mode, follow these steps:
a. Locate the executable file (.exe file) for the driver installation program. b. Right-click the file, and then click Properties. c. In the Package NameProperties dialog box, click the Compatibility tab. d. Click to select the Run this program in compatibility mode for check box, click Windows 8 with which it is compatible with in the Run this program in compatibility mode for list, and then click OK. e. Double-click the executable file to start the installation program.
Hope this helps.
Please get back to us with the results we will be happy to help you further.

When I searched for 'Windows Fax and Scan' (#1) I get a box to 'install Windows Scan'. When I select thatr it tell me that the program is already installed and I opened it.
I actioned step #2and #3 and the first page was scanned.
Re step #4 - there was no option on the toolbar to select 'New Scan'.
re the HP Solutions Center - I tried it again, and it worked. Not sure why the program didn't launch the first time(s) I launched it, but it did now.
I would still like to be able to use the Windows Scan app. Any other suggestions? Perhaps I did not select the correct app from the search. Could you forward a link?
Thank you!!

I have a HP Photosmart 7520 flatbed, all-in-one printer/scanner.
I tried your steps 1-7 and in the New Scan dialog box was not able to find PDF. I tried selecting Photo, Document, flatbed, and paper feeder. The only available file types are BMP, JPG, PNG, and TIF.
And I always get only one independent page per scan. I am not able to scan multiple document pages into one single jpg file, that in some cases could be a substitute for the pdf.
The square at the bottom of the New Scan window
[]Preview or scan images as separate files
is unmarked and inactive

I had the same issue. The only way that I found to do it was to go into Program Files and open the old HP scan application and use that instead and can now scan a number of pages into one PDF file as before

I know this is an old thread, but had the need to do just this today and still had no luck with MS Scannner. Then I found this opensource (free) product and it scans multiple pages and more... hope it helps.

OK, but ... this doesn't say how to scan multiple pages of a document into one image. I've been scanning documents all morning, but even unchecking 'Preview or scan images as seperate files' doesn't do anything. I still get a different image for each scan, with no visible way to add a page to the image or any way to scan except for 'New Scan'. Does Microsoft honestly believe that the only think home users are scanning are photos? I have a 22-pg disability report I have to upload to the Department of Economic Security, and I can only upload once, I can't upload 22 separate images. I only need to scan once every three months, so I don't need to upgrade to 'professional' anything. I can re-install the Canon software on this laptop (my son's) to get it done, but it's so freaking annoying and I'd rather just use what came with Windows. Except that I can't find the answer on how to get it done.

The answer doesn't address the problem (we can't make multiple page scans into a single file) b/c the MS software is not capable of this level of usefulness. Face it, they have a monopoly and therefore don't have to provide anything useful or easy to use (witness MS-Word...). They know they are the only game in town. Use your scanner software unless you only need to do a one-page scan.

Scanning hard copies of documents allows you to store electronic copies of important files, share them via email or over a network and archive files without physical storage space. Unless you configure your Brother MFC scanner to compile multiple pages into a single scanned document, you will have dozens if not hundreds of unique files to save. You can set up the scanner using either the automatic document feeder or directly from the scanner glass.
Scanning From the Feeder
1.
Click the 'Start' button on your desktop and type 'brother' into the search box. Point to the name of your MFC and select 'ControlCenterx' (where 'x' is a single-digit number) to load the ControlCenter application in the system tray to the left of the clock on your taskbar. Double-click the 'ControlCenter' icon in the system tray.
2.
Click 'Configuration' and select 'Scan.' Choose 'File' as the scan type to open the Scan to Configuration window.
3.
Go to the 'Device Button' tab and choose 'PDF (.PDF),' ' Tiff Multi-Page # Uncompressed (.tif)' or 'Tiff Multi-Page # Compressed (*.tif)' under File Types, as these file types allow multi-page scans.
4.
Place the entire document into the automatic feeder on the scanner and press the machine's 'Scan' button. Press the 'Arrow' key to select 'File' and then press 'OK.' Press the 'Start' button to scan to a single document.
Scanning From the Glass
1.
Lift the document cover on the Brother MFC, place the first page face down onto the glass and close the cover.
2.
Click the 'Start' button on the computer and type 'scansoft' into the search box. Point to 'ScanSoft PaperPort' and select 'PaperPort.'
3.
Select the Brother MFC as the scanner and select a profile, such as 'B&W Document.' Click 'Scan.'
4.
Remove the first page from the glass after it has been scanned and place the second page on the glass. Close the lid and click the 'Scan More Pages' button.
5.
Scan all of the pages in the document one at a time. Click the 'Done' button when you are finished.
